This doctor did not listen to my concerns or issues. He spent 20 minutes with me and 15 of that was during the procedure. He didn't treat my condition and it put me back in the hospital. He only cared about his hefty bill. He didn't give me the time to speak to me after the procedure and he did not show up to my follow up appt and just sent his nurse who had nothing to say. Now I have to pay another doctor to fix my problem after a large ER bill because of the pain I am in and he would not even give me a minute of his time to explain to tell me why he chose the procedure that didn't treat my condition.

I selected Dr. Black as my surgeon based on his numerous positive reviews, but my personal experience was a stark contrast and a medical disaster. In June, I underwent a routine laparoscopic hysterectomy and was sent home directly from the surgery. Within two days, I developed a severe fever, chills, and abdominal pain. My condition deteriorated rapidly, and I was forced to go to the ER. The ER nurse recommended admitting me for IV antibiotics based on my lab results, but they were waiting to hear back from my surgeon. The ER team and my family were perplexed that despite clear evidence of pneumonia and a hematoma/abscess, Dr. Black advised releasing me home. I never spoke with him or saw him. I was too ill to go home, and the ER staff, who had reviewed my labs and vital signs, advised me to stay.

I continued to deteriorate while in the hospital and received no follow-up from Dr. Black. After my family complained to hospital management about the lack of oversight, I finally received a reluctant call from Dr. Black after a week of IV antibiotic treatment. When I informed him of my persistent fevers, he asked, “Are you sure it isn't just hot flashes?”(Incidentally, I had not had my ovaries removed and had no pre-surgery symptoms of menopause.) I informed him they were fevers not hot flashes as i was averaging 102 and 103. I then mentioned that my CT scan showed an abscess, to which he responded, “You haven't had a CT scan.” At this point, I had undergone three CT scans, as well as numerous lab tests, which he clearly had not reviewed. Additionally, I had become dehydrated because the nurses were still administering Colace despite my signing a waiver to opt out, as I had no doctor overseeing my care or creating a treatment plan. My condition continued to worsen, and after realizing how little Dr. Black cared and how I was deteriorating, my family decided to transfer me to Cleveland Clinic where I spent another week in the hospital. Fortunately, I received exceptional care under Dr. Arnold's guidance, and the infectious disease team there saved my life by providing appropriate care and adjusting my IV antibiotics. After two weeks in the hospital and a week of home health IV therapy, I am finally healthy again, thanks to their efforts. While I'm sure Dr. Black has helped others, I felt compelled to share my experience to highlight the substandard care I received and to warn others.

Dr. Black saved my life. He performed State of the Art Robotic surgery for my stage 4 ovarian cancer in June 2019. I have 5 teeny incision scars that I can’t even see! No matter how far away you live…….. you will be blessed by being able to see Dr. Black.
