I came to Barrow for surgical removal of a cavernous malformation. Barrow provides the utmost professional, high-level care. I felt completely safe and well taken care of while seeking treatment with them through Dr. Lawton, Dr. Benet and Dr. Asher. I know I made the best choice to protect my brain and life. Barrow is a beautiful, clean facility, filled with deeply empathetic, validating and attentive staff. My nurses who cared for me post op were amazing. I am grateful to this entire team for saving my life and keeping me safe. Thank you ? ?

Six month update- I can confidently say six months post-op, I made the right decision trusting this team. Any residual symptoms I am having are typical post craniotomy stuff, like headaches, which resolve easily and are getting better with time. I have friends who had the same condition and surgery who have had many more post surgical concerns than I have. My issues are very very minor and expected. Whether or not this is luck or skill, I do not know. But I feel confident saying I know I put my life in the hands of the right people. Every day I feel I am making growth, I'm working full time, feeling so grateful One surprising outcome was how minimal my surgical scar is. These guys could be plastic surgeons! Haha!! My scar is so tiny and unnoticeable, people can't even see it. I have dig through my hair to show them, like "See? I had brain surgery!" I'm not certain people believe me because of how little it is and how well I am doing!
Something I feel is really important to say is, I have met my fair share of neurosurgeons (6 total now) and neurologists. Dr Lawton, Dr Benet and Dr Asher really are so kind and humble. Some neurosurgeons are arrogant, dismissive or rude. I never once felt I wasn't taken seriously or cared for. So the expertise this team holds, in addition to their bedside manner, is really what makes them the best of the best. Those doctors have a genuine kindness that really stuck with me and I still think about. I still can't believe I was lucky enough to have surgery there. I am a very blessed human being. I can sleep at night knowing I am safe.

You will always take a risk having surgery ANYWHERE- that is life. Nothing can ever be perfect. It hurt. It was hard. Brain surgery is a really hard thing to do. People have challenges and difficulties. I am very very blessed. I attribute this to Dr Lawton and Barrow. We did have some minor issues with navigating office staff miscommunication. But six months down the road from this huge surgery, looking back my advice is- go here, don't look back, take a chance and rest easy. I would recommend them to anyone.

In June 2024 I had a stroke and was treated Barrows in Phoenix by Dr Lynn Ashby. Her and the team did outstanding job of assessing me over the period of 2 1/2 days. I have continued to see her over the last six months where she continues to guide me and lead me through what I will call a checklist that will hopefully get me the answers that I need. My strokes are of an unknown origin, and I have an absolute high confidence level that we will have a resolution in the near future. She is kind, compassionate, and one of the most intelligent neurologist, I have worked with. She does not stop looking for answers. She is determined and I appreciate her dedication. I highly recommend her.

The best, cutting edge care for neurological disease in the world, hands down. BNI's CEO, Dr. Lawton, is a class act on top of a world class surgeon. He is a truly amazing and humble individual and I would recommend him and his organization of health care professionals to anyone in need, hands down and without hesitation. A world-leading neurosurgical mecca!

Had my first visit with Dr Robblee and was very impressed with her knowledge, compassion, and willingness to listen to my concerns. It was some work to get all the necessary steps taken care of before getting my initial appointment, but once that was complete, things moved along quickly and efficiently. The staff are all friendly and I definitely recommend Barrows.

I have a rare condition. My body does not produce antibodies. One of the affects is my ears get infected often and then the infection goes into my lungs and I get pneumonia. Through surgery and treatment he has been able to keep me relatively well. I am so grateful for his time and caring attention.
Dr. Shawn Stevens is the best doctor/surgeon I have met in my 70 years in Arizona!
If I need him, he is there!
His staff has been great also!!!

Doctor Chan is a true gem. She is always on time and spends her patient time totally focused on her goal of providing the very best care possible. Doctor Chan is extremely thorough and totally focused on patient concerns. Besides being wicked smart, Doctor Chan is pleasant to talk to and to work with. I feel as though Doctor Chan is a blessing sent by God as she cares for my medical needs and encourages me to stay focused and tracking with my own situation.
